Algebra II: Test is tomorrow, your assignment is to work on the chapter test, p. 227 problems 1, 5, 9, 15

We will start Chapter 4 tomorrow!

Elementary Functions:
Blocks A and C: Test tomorrow is on chapter two, from 2.1 through 2.5 including the two statements from class today (below)

The Fundamental Theorem of Algebra
A polynomial function of degree n>0 has n complex zeros. Some of these zeros may be repeated.

A polynomial function of degree n>0 has at most n real zeros.
** we also have shown that a polynomial of ODD degree has at least 1 real zero, but even degree does not have that quality

Suggested practice: P.253, #1, 5, 9, 17, 21, 22, 25, 29, 31, 37, 39, 40, 41, 42, 44, 53, 86

Study: Writing linear equations and quadratic equations given two points
Writing Power functions from a verbal model
Constant of variation
Dividing polynomial functions ** also
Remainder theorem
Factor theorem
Rational Zeros theorem
Adding, subtracting, multiplying complex numbers
Finding real zeros through Rational Zeros theorem and using the grapher or solving
Polynomial properties (a 3rd degree looks like..., a 12th degree looks like...)

In effort to support the little guy, if by the end of the quarter I have more visits to my website by Firefox than by Internet Explorer (the race is very close currently) I will curve the overall grades by 1% point.

Algebra II: P. 199 4-14 all -- follow your notes from class. The chapter test should be Thursday!

Elementary Functions: Block C. P.218 1-16 all Linky linky
We should finish up this chapter and test on Thursday (Friday at the latest). Several of you will be out either Thursday or Friday, YOU MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO TAKE THE TEST BEFORE THE END OF THE QUARTER!

Additionally, I am staying after school on Wednesday the 31st (yes, halloween), for test retakes. You must let me know ahead of time if you will be here then and what test/quiz you plan to retake. If you do not let me know by lunch on Wednesday, I will not have anything for you to retake.

Algebra II: Work on 4-14 all from your book -- remember, if they aren't the same size, you can't add or subtract them!

Elementary Functions:
Thursday p. 208 #1-11 odd Answer all of the questions in fraction form.

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

All classes: Reminder that all tests must be made up by October 31st. I will offer to stay late on the 31st, but otherwise you should plan to take any retakes during the morning tutoring sessions.

Algebra II: Finish your take home quiz tonight, it must be in my hands by the beginning of the block tomorrow.

Elementary Functions: Homework is to work on the worksheet
Here is Lesson 2.4 in its entirety. It is a large file because I scanned all 12 pages of the lesson (examples and all). Your homework for the remainder of the week will be the following:
Sec. 2.4 Real Zeros of Polynomial Functions

Thursday p. 208 #1-11 odd

Friday p. 209 #13, 18, 19, 23, 25, 27, 35, 49, 53, 65

Monday, October 22, 2007

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Algebra II: Homework: Finish the worksheet of graphing inequalities (remember to shade!), then do 1,4 and 7 from the other worksheet.

Study the following for the benchmark:

Slope
Perpendicular and parallel slopes
absolute value equations and inequalities
Square roots of numbers
What is a function
shading in inequality graphs

Elementary Functions: Block A: P. 196 and 197, 1-16all (old stuff that was technically due today) and 29-38 all (new stuff) I will collect this and give double credit.

Block C: P. 196-197, 37-52 every 3rd problem (37,40,43,46,49,52) You are very concerned about a quiz so that means one of two things to me: either you want one to help pad your grade, or you don't understand what is going on and you don't want to fail.

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Algebra II: Homework is the "Chapter Test" section at the end of chapter 2, P. 145 #1-11. There are 4 graphs, and I gave you graph paper, so please be accurate with placing points and lines!!!

Elementary Functions: Block A: P.133 1-20 all

Block C: Study study study. Start by looking back at homework. By now you should be highlighting or marking things you did not understand in previous assignments and you should go back to try the problems again. Additionally, look through quizzes and see what you did not do well on -- these are things to keep practicing with. Finally, look to the chapter review exercises ( p.150-152 in this chapter) and try the problems - you should be pretty familiar with most of the topics and all of the terms in the concepts/properties/procedures on the previous pages should be something you can explain in a sentence or two.

If you can do p.150, 1-58, you should have no trouble with the test tomorrow. Do not worry about horizontal stretch/shrink, but do know how to use a vertical stretch/shrink!

I never hit "Publish Post" yesterday, I'm very sorry!

Algebra II: P.135 7-14 all, This is due MONDAY, but we will take a second tomorrow to discuss it before the college fair. Check out this page for a studyguide (you have to click the download link)

Elementary Functions:Block A P. 123 14-17 all and 33-37 all
For 33-37, all you need to do is put in the g(x) equation into the f(x) equation, then put the f(x) equation to the g(x) equation to verify that both will simplify to be x. Show all of your work, or else I cannot accept it for full credit.

Block C: P. 133, 2-24even and 25

Elementary Functions:Block A. P. 122 2-7all. Use the link for block C yesterday, you need both pages, and will have an assignment from these pages again tomorrow.

Block Cp. 123 # 15(again) 16, 17(again), 33-37
37 is an exercise in simplifying fractions
Use the link from yesterday or the page you downloaded yesterday (P. 123 is on there)
For 33-37, all you need to do is put in the g(x) equation into the f(x) equation, then put the f(x) equation to the g(x) equation to verify that both will simplify to be x. Show all of your work, or else I cannot accept it for full credit.
