Wow, it's already the end of May. Don't forget, there are only 4 classes until the open ended final exam!!!

Algebra II: Thank you to all that turned in their projects early. Homework is P. 1013 1-16all. Be ready to hit the ground running tomorrow!

Algebra I: Practice working with inequalities and graphs of inequalities -- I hear there will be plenty on the final in several forms. Also, be sure you are working on your quadratics, they will make up the bulk of the the exam. Homework is the worksheet from class covering linear equations.

Sorry there wasn't a post yesterday, tied up in meetings and it slipped my mind until I was elbow deep in dirt. Sadly, my garden does not have internet access.

Algebra II: P.1013 5-11 all -- review for the final! Remember that the open ended portion is June the 7th.

Algebra II: Work on your project -- it is due on Wednesday. Look below for the writeup.

Algebra I: We went to the lab on Friday, and most people are catching up to where they are supposed to be. Only 3 more lab sessions left! No new homework.

Review Project

Your task is to prepare both yourself, as well as your classmates for the final. I have broken down the material that we covered this year into small packets of 1 to 4 sections for each of you to tackle.

First, you must re-familiarize yourself with the subject matter. Do this by picking up your book and actually reading the section. Yes, read every page, every word – we may have missed something in our fast paced romp through the book. Second, start an outline of the section(s) and be sure to focus on the Key Concepts in each section. You are producing a document that everyone will look over to study for the final, so be thorough. Next, create four UNIQUE examples (not examples from your text or notetaking guide) and work them through to completion. It is very important that you check your work with these examples to be sure you are correct! Finally, create 4 questions and supply answers separate for review/quiz use. Two of your questions will be used on an in class review quiz, and two will be used just for review..

Breakdown of points:

Class work portion:
Thorough outline of section(s) 15 points
Key Concepts clearly shown 5 points
Homework portion:
Examples with solutions 10 points
Questions for review/quiz 10 points

Total value for assignment (scaled by a factor of 2) 40 classroom pts
40 homework pts

Algebra II: See you at prom tonight! I assigned sections of the book to outline and make a study guide for your peers. EVERYONE needs to pull through on this one for it to be beneficial! Expect more detail in class tomorrow, but for now (if you have time) look over your section (I will publish a list in class if you forget your section) and familiarize yourself with the main ideas.

Algebra I: Finish the review worksheet, I will collect them at the beginning of class tomorrow for double credit (you had two nights!).

Wednesday (finally), May 23rd, 2007

Algebra II: Chapter test as promised, looks like everyone blew off studying. Hopefully this doesn't mean you have shut down for the end of the year -- we still have a lot of work to go before you're officially done. I reminded everyone to look at chapter 3.5, we didn't discuss this in class, but there is a question about it on the final. We will likely make SHORT mention of it during a review, but do not expect to understand it just from a brief review!

Algebra I:Tests look ok -- i feel that all the homework that the class is NOT doing is showing up on the test... I really really need to remind you all that if you are not doing the homework, it is going to be almost impossible for you to be successful on exams. Homework tonight is the review sheet. Most people have it at least 1/2 done, and if you have to skip some, skip the LAST 5. See you tomorrow!

Algebra II: STUDY

Algebra I:P674 13-20 all

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Algebra II: We finished off ellipsis and finished the worksheet for homework -- the last three problems should be the only thing that you have to worry about, and please remember to label the foci!

Algebra I: Don't forget "Pop goes the weasel"! Thank you to Ms. Rudolph for helping us and thank you Chelsey for playing. Homework is p. 674, 3-12 all.

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Algebra II: Looks like this is sinking in -- homework is to finish the 9.3 side of the worksheet, and try to graph 1&2 of 9.4.

Algebra I: Homework is p.655, h(w)=[(6w)/3]+17 with a domain of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6

Monday, May 14, 2007

Monday, May 14th, 2007

Algebra II: Nearly everyone finished the worksheet in class, I hope you all can apply the last chapter's skills to this chapter! Look for a quiz on thursday that will focus mostly on finding focus and directrix, and finding radius of circles in standard form.

Algebra I: Homework was page 655, h(w)= [(6w)/2] + 3 with a domain of 0,1,2,3,4,and 26/6. We will be in the lab tomorrow, and the homework will be p.655, h(w)=[(6w)/3]+17 with a domain of 0,1,2,3,4,5,6

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Algebra II: I hope you all enjoyed Walkin'for Wishes, and remember that it was to benefit the Make a Wish foundation. Homework is an extension on last night's work, p. 623 7-10 all. please be sure to LABEL your focus and directrix !!!!!

Algebra I: AAACK! I can't find the page, but it was 1-10 all -- mixed review or quiz?! I'll look at my book when I get home tonight or tomorrow morning and post - Sorry!

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Algebra II: x^2=4py and y^2=4px is starting to make more sense -- just like the log equations, you really just need to memorize these forms and you'll be ok. Homework is in the book, p.623 1-6 all, full credit will only be given if graphs are attempted to be accurate (no sketches!)

Algebra I: We discovered that zeros, solutions, x-intercepts, where the graph crosses the x-axis and solving the function all mean the same thing. Homework is the worksheet from last night -- thank you to the 3 people that actually did it last night, you don't have any homework tonight.

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Algebra II: Talked about the focus and directrix and axis of symmetry. Homework is to write the standard form of the equation of the parabola with vertex at (0,0) and the directrix x=-3/4.

Algebra I: We finished (hopefully) the packet talking about transformations in quadratic functions. The homework is a worksheet asking you about transformations. You get to choose the values of a, c, h and k, so you are making the transformation and then describing what you have done in the function.

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Algebra II: No new homework, make sure you finished last night's which was P.138 1-9 all, 1-3, be sure to describe your transformations!

If you are not on unit 25 in the lab by now, be absolutely sure that you have a plan to be working on the tutor during mornings (there are no after school tutoring sessions left!)

Algebra I: Homework is P. 638 1-5, 12-15, 27, 37 Double points!!! Also, if your name has an A in it, then please clean your room (you know who I am talking to).
Finally bring your packets from last week to class tomorrow!!!

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Algebra II: We worked in the lab today, and most people are finishing through Unit 17. If you are not on unit 25 by now, be absolutely sure that you have a plan to be working on the tutor during mornings (there are no after school tutoring sessions left!) Homework is P.138 1-9 all, 1-3, be sure to describe your transformations!

Algebra I:We worked on quadratic equations with a bx term in them. Remember that equations look like y=+- ax^2+bx+c where +/- makes it open up or down, a is a dilation that makes it skinny if you use a value greater than one, and fat if the a value is less than one, c moves the graph up or down, and b moves your parabola in 2 dimensions. Your axis of symmetry is the line that goes through the vertex, and is always in the form of x= ___ while the vertex itself is the maximum or minimum point of your parabola.
Homework is to finish the worksheet from class -- don't forget to get this done, too many people's grades are falling because of homework!

Algebra II: Tests looked pretty good, the graphing was a bit rough though. Remember that you can always practice domain and range with ANY problem that you graph - just think about what you can and cannot put into the function (domain) and what you can an cannot get out of the function (range)

Homework: P. 129 (yes, p 129!) 43-48 all, and 49-54, describe each transformation from y=x to the indicated function (careful with 52)

Algebra I: Worksheet for homework, do your best with the graphs, and I would suggest that you create a t-table before graphing.

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Algebra II: Test is tomorrow -- I suggest that you look at p. 610, the standardized test practice. Answers are: 1.)b 2.)c 3.)a 4.)c 5.)d 6.)d 7.)b 8.)a 9.)1 10.)3.2 11.)31.5 12.)1 13.)23 14.)2ft/s or 4ft/s
Practice graphing y=(2x-1)/(6x+3) y=4/x and y=2/(x-1) +1

Algebra I: Homework is a worksheet on factoring - don't forget that you can use the box to help you factor.

Sorry this post is a day late -- it had trouble posting yesterday but said that it did post, so I went home for the day. The computer had been acting weird all day and I wrote it off as a network problem. This morning my computer thought it was the year 2032, so I restarted and I think all is working well now.

Algebra II: p. 592 1-5 -- solving rational expressions. Don't forget to set the left side to y1, right side to y2 and 2nd/trace/5 the intersection to check solutions.

Algebra I: Thank you Chelsey for doing such a great job. Students: Chelsey assigned a homework sheet - be careful with the domain and range.
